President Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed James Mworia, the Centum CEO, as the new Chancellor of Machakos University for a period of five years.

Mworia’s appointment was announced in a Kenya Gazette notice on Thursday.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 38 (1) (a) of the Universities Act, I Uhuru Kenyatta president and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces appoint James Mworia to be the Chancellor of Machakos University for a period of five years,” the Gazette read.

Mworia’s appointment will be effective on April 23, 2022.

He has been the Group CEO and Managing Director of Centum Investment Company Limited since his appointment in 2008. 

The Centum CEO also chairs the board of directors at Sidian Bank and also serves and is also a member of the Nairobi Securities Exchange since June 2015.

Mworia also sits on the boards of Nairobi Bottlers Limited, General Motors East Africa Limited, and Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. 

He was first appointed the Chancellor of Machakos University in October 2016.

Mworia is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya and holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi.

He is also a certified public accountant and a chartered financial analyst.
