The former Secretary-General of KNUT Wilson Sossion has asked the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party to postpone the party primaries in Bomet County over rigging allegations.

Sossion is eyeing the Bomet Senatorial seat on a UDA ticket and is among aspirants in the county who want the party primaries suspended.

Sossion raised concerns over rigging claims at Tenwek High School after the nomination exercise took off on Thursday.

According to Sossion, the rigging happened at midnight and he reported the matter to the Silipwet Police Station.

Sossion alleged the police could not impound the ballot papers which were in transit to an unknown destination.

“This sad event occurred at midnight and I reported to the Silipwet police station, and I confirm police were able to impound ballot papers and ballot papers that were being transported to an unknown and insecure destination,” Sossion said.

Sossion also claimed that there were reports of insecure ballot papers and they accessed ballot papers that had already been marked.

“Indeed, there have been many reports of insecure ballot papers, and when we got here, to Tenwek, it was very unfortunate; even the ballot papers and boxes were not secure at all. We were able to access papers that were marked,” Sossion said.

While addressing the media on Thursday morning, the former KNUT boss said police impounded some voting materials en route to an unknown destination. Some of those ballot papers were already marked.

“The police were able to impound ballot papers and boxes that were being transported to unknown and insecure destinations. We have accessed ballot papers that are marked,” he said.

Sossion and the other aspirants accused the Chief Returning Officer of directing a process that was not transparent.

At the same time, the aspirants raised concerns over the procedure and criteria that were applied when recruiting and appointing the Presiding Officers and Clerks.

They demanded UDA’s National Executive Board addresses the matter promptly to give way to a democratic process.
