Four prison warders are in custody after fraudulently obtaining over Sh2 from two unsuspecting Kenyans by promising employment.

The four had handed Stellah Kemunto and Joash Ounde fake offer letters to the recently concluded police recruitment exercise.

The two victims realised they were duped and reported the matter to Kiamumbi Police Station.

An operation was immediately launched in search of the four who were operating in two vehicles leading to their arrest at CIATA City Mall in Ridgeways in Kiambu County. while hawking the fake appointment letters.

Industrial Area Depot based Sergeant Violet Gachomo, Corporals Beatrice Wambui Kamau and Florence Wanjiku Ndung’u, based at Kenya prisons headquarters and Industrial Area Remand Prison-based Ben Mburu were arrested were found with 20 fake appointment letters (docked numbers).

Also recovered from the suspects were academic papers belonging to various applicants that were in a Toyota Probox which they had converted into a recruitment bureau.

Other accomplices of the four escaped in a black Toyota Noah, and the police are still in pursuit.

Kemunto and Ounde informed the police that they had raised the money to secure employment for their kin.

Another main suspect, named Jefferson Kivuva is still at large and efforts to apprehend him are underway.

The four suspects were put in custody, awaiting to be arraigned in court.
