The Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has strongly condemned the attack on former Prime Minister Raila Odinga on Friday in Uasin Gishu County.

Matiangi issued a statement in which he termed the incident as regrettable and retrogressive.

"The regrettable incident is a sad and atavistic reminder of the ugly face of violent political intolerance that our beloved motherland has worked hard to consign to the annals of a painful history in the last 14 years," Matiang’i said.

He called upon the National Police Service (NPS) to investigate the matter and ensure the perpetrators and masterminds were brought to book promptly.

"I call upon the National Police Service to investigate the matter and ensure that all the culprits and their masterminds are made to swiftly and decisively face the consequences of their criminal actions," Matiang’i added.

The Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate together with members of his team, including Junet Mohamed and Babu Owino, were in the Kebens area in Uasin Gishu to attend the burial of Mzee Jackson Kibor when a rowdy group of youth descended on his chopper and cars with stones.

Raila blamed local leaders for the incident and challenged them to condemn the act without delay and promise an end to such.
