Police in Sotik have arrested a Senior Principal Magistrate at Kehancha Law Courts in Migori County after he was caught with a minor in lodging.

The magistrate was whose name remains withheld was caught with a 17-year-old minor at lodging in Kaplong Centre in Bomet County.

A report by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) says the magistrate was found at around 11 pm in one room of the lodging defiling the minor.

The DCI revealed the magistrate was revelling at the hotel’s bar before being joined by the minor and leaving the bar for the room.

"At around 8pm, the magistrate turned suspect booked room 102 at Sharies Bar and Restaurant as he imbibed drinks at the bar. At around 11pm, he was joined by the juvenile and together they left the bar for the room," DCI said.

Word got to detectives based at Sotik Police Station who swung into action and rushed to the hotel and arrested the magistrate.

The police collected crucial evidence, including stained bedsheets for forensic analysis, that will be used to build a case against the magistrate.

"The exhibits shall be subjected to forensic analysis at the DCI National Forensic Laboratory, for DNA examination and other necessary tests," the DCI said.

They took the magistrate and the minor to a health facility for requisite medical examination where more samples were collected for the investigation.

They later booked the girl as a child who needs care and protection.
