The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga has endorsed Fernandes Barasa as the ODM gubernatorial candidate.

Raila endorsed Barasa while addressing a crowd at Sabatia Market in Butere Constituency, Kakamega County on Sunday.

The Azimio la Umoja flag bearer said Barasa is the best candidate to succeed the outgoing governor Wycliffe Oparanya.

"As we pass the baton to Barasa, Oparanya and I will go to Nairobi where he will help me work from there," Raila said.

Raila’s endorsement of Barasa metaphorically outlined his wish that other Kakamega ODM candidates should step down and back Barasa.

Barasa will face off ANC’s Cleophas Malala, Ayub Savula and Philip Kitima.

While on the same campaign trail, Raila said his main agenda was to fight for the revival of the country’s economy when he takes leadership of the country.

Raila said he has engaged in many battles but this time he wants to fight for Kenya’s economy.

"I have fought for the dictatorship in this country. I fought for the new Constitution and it's time to fight for our economy and to help our youths as well," Raila said.
