Esther Passaris, Rachel Shebesh, Ann Kananu and other female leaders led a peaceful protest in Nairobi’s Central Business Disctrict (CBD) on Thursday afternoon.

The protests were staged in reaction to insults directed and Mama Ngina Kenyatta by a section of Kenyan politicians.

Their actions were instigated by a viral video that the leader of Abagusii Community living in the US Ombori Monari otherwise known as Cosmo Choy shared hurling unprintable insults at Mama Ngina.

Passaris, the Nairobi Woman Representative said Mama Ngina deserves to be respected as she qualifies for the title of the mother of the nation. She added that Mama Ngina like any other Kenyan has the right to comment on Kenyan politics and being a woman, she represents about 50 per cent of views held by Kenyans.

“Mama Ngina has a right to speak about Kenya’s politics. She represents 50 per cent of Kenyans’ collective views,” said Passaris.

Passaris demanded an apology from the Deputy President William Ruto because Choy; who is an ardent supporter of his is the one who stirred the hornet’s nest.

“The Women of Kenya condemn the obscene utterances made against the honour of former First Lady and mother of our nation Mama Ngina Kenyatta. We demand an apology from DP, and ask him to rein in his supporters as their remarks, if not condemned, are condoned by him,” Passaris said.

The Gender CAS Shebesh advised Kenyans to avoid embarrassing women in front of their children and husbands. She also urged men to desist from using women as punching bags.

“I’m urging men not to use women as punching bags. People should refrain from embarrassing women in front of their children and husbands. Insulting Mama Ngina Kenyatta is where we draw the line,” Shebesh said.

A section of the public have condemned the recent trend in which politicians hurl insults against Mama Ngina.
