The NARC-Kenya Party leader Martha Karua has declared her support for Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

Karua declared her support for Raila on Wednesday during a press briefing after holding talks with Raila.

The former Member of Parliament for Gichugu constituency said henceforth her party and herself are supporting Raila.

“I’m here to confirm that from now onwards, NARC-Kenya and I are supporting the Azimio presidential candidate Right Honourable Raila Odinga. And this is without any equivocation,” Karua declared.

Karua said she believes Kenya has to look for leaders who have demonstrated a track record of selflessness and prioritise the interests of the country.

“I have said time and again and NARC-Kenya believes in this. That as we move forward we must look for leaders who have a demonstrated record of being selfless, of putting the interests of the nation above theirs,” Karua added.

She emphasised the election of people who keep promises instead of those who just make promises, because making promises is much easier than fulfilling them.

Karua said all promises become null in the absence of integrity in leadership and safeguarding of public resources.

Karua also said she has been looking keenly between Kenya Kwanza and Azimio la Umoja formations, which side has more good people and settled for Azimio without much ado.

"I have been looking keenly and have been able, without much struggle to identify a critical mass of good people within the Azimio Coalition. And that is all that is needed to steer the nation in the right direction," Karua said.

With Karua joining the Azimio la Umoja coalition, the Kenya Kwanza faction has been dealt a blow since they have been trying to woo Karua to join their formation.

Kenya Kwanza has tried to entice Karua by toying with the idea of making her Deputy President William Ruto’s running mate in the August election.
