An irate mob lynched a 22-year-old man in Vihiga County over allegations that he had battered his wife.

According to the are chief Linet Ong’ayo, the deceased identifies as Vincent Dangwali and his wife had a disagreement that escalated to a physical fight.

Following the beatings that were unbearable, Dangwali’s wife was forced to seek refuge at her parents’ home, which happened to be in the same neighbourhood.

The irate mob which was reported to have been keeping vigil at a home nearby descended on Dangwali with blows, kicks, and all manner of projectiles once they got hold of him.

It turned out that Dangwali was also linked to criminal activities in the area and at the time of the incident; he had a pending criminal case in court.

His body was moved to Vihiga referral hospital pending investigations.

The police cautioned the public against taking the law into their own hands and let the law take its course.
