The driver of the Toyota Probox in the viral video in which a woman was screaming along Thika Superhighway on Sunday was arraigned in court on Monday.

James Maina Kibe was arraigned at Milimani Law Courts and charged for reckless driving contrary to section 47 of the Traffic Act, CAP 403 of the Kenyan law.

Kibe pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined Sh70,000. Apart from the fine, his driving licence was also suspended.

Kibe was arrested on Monday for endangering the woman and other road users.

Police established the woman was Kibe’s girlfriend and a misunderstanding after a night out culminated in the incident that was witnessed on that fateful night.

Kibe and his girlfriend had earlier gone to the police station to withdraw the matter from police action after reconciling, but the police pressed charges.

The police thanked the members of the public for offering information that led to the identification and subsequent arrest of Kibe.

“The National Police Service wishes to thank members of the public for availing information that led to the arrest of the suspect,” NPS said.
