The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) National Election Board has cautioned Mombasa aspirants seeking the party’s ticket to vie for various seats against engaging in violent activities.

ODM Mombasa chairperson Mohammed Khamisi said the party will take stern action against aspirants who cause chaos during the party primaries.

Khamisi also warned the youth against being used by politicians to cause trouble.

The chairman said the party is sensitising candidates to ensure peaceful primaries in the region. He also said the party condemns any form of violence and incitement.

“We are sensitising our candidates to ensure peace prevails during the party primaries in Mombasa. ODM is the most popular party in this region. That is why it has attracted many aspirants. But we condemn any violence and inciting youth to cause mayhem,” Khamisi said.

Khamisi warned that any candidate that sparks any form of violence will be liable and penalised by the board.

"If any candidate engages in violence during the primaries or his or her supporters cause mayhem, they will be liable and penalised by the board. We are not happy with the recent clashes that occurred in Mombasa. We will work with the polls to deal with perpetrators of violence," Khamisi said.

Khamisi was speaking against the backdrop of the clash that happened on the International Women’s day at Tononoka between supporters of two ODM gubernatorial aspirants, Abduslwamad Nasir and Suleiman Shahbal.
