Deputy President William Ruto has encouraged boda boda operators whose motorbikes were impounded by police during the national crackdown to walk into the respective police stations and collect their motorbikes.

Ruto was speaking on Wednesday at Ngara while he was on a campaign trail in Nairobi.

“All those boda boda operators whose motorbikes were taken away, I urge them to walk to the police stations and take their motorbikes,” Ruto said.

The UDA presidential candidate accused the same government he serves of harassing boda boda riders.

Ruto also claimed the boda boda operators were illegally fined and their money should be returned to them.

“They were also fined illegally and their money should be returned so that they can continue their businesses because they are doing legit business,” he claimed.

President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered a nationwide crackdown on all boda boda operators following the sexual assault of a female motorist by boda boda operators along Forest Road and the public outcry by Kenyans over the unbecoming conduct of boda boda operators.

However, the government suspended the crackdown on all parts of Kenya except Nairobi Count to allow the multi-sectoral committee coordinating it to develop a suitable implementation framework.
