Azimio la Umoja presidential aspirant Raila Odinga has received a major boost from United Development Movement (UDM) after the party resolved to endorse him as their preferred presidential candidate.

This came during the party’s National Delegation Convention (NDC) that was held at the Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi.

The party lawyer, Issa Mansur read the declaration that said UDM will support Raila under the Azimio la Umoja movement during the event.

“UDM national delegates conference endorses Hon Raila Odinga as the presidential candidate for the party in the 2022 General elections,” Mansur said.

UDM party leader Ali Roba affirmed that he has locked North-Eastern region for Raila.

Roba also said the party will embark on aggressive grassroot campaigns for Raila in the region and across the country.

During the NDC, UDM delegates mandated the party to join the Azimio la Umoja movement and endorsed the partnership with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee party.

The ODM leader attended the NDC and pledged to improve the economy of the North-Eastern region where UDM enjoys the majority of its backing and his government will ensure it considers the region’s plight.

“Pastoralists are very important people and my government will ensure it considers their plight through creating opportunities aimed at ensuring that livestock production is enhanced even in the cases of drought,” Raila said.

Raila also pledged to promote devolution in Kenya to solve the perennial issue facing the North-Easter region which falls under the Arid and Semi-arid Lands (ASALS).

Other leaders who attended the UDM NDC include Charity Ngilul, Peter Keneth, James Orengo Wafula Wamunyinyi, among others.
