Human Rights activist Okiya Omtatah has moved to court and filed a petition seeking to have politicians facing graft charges barred from running in the August general elections.

Omtata’s concern he said resulted from the adverse mentioning of several individuals running for political seats in cases related to the theft of public funds.

In the petition filed under a certificate of urgency, Omtatah noted some aspirants mentioned in the Covid-19 billionaire saga are lining up to contest in the August election.

"COVID-19 billionaires are lining up to vie at the 9th August 2022 general elections for various positions at the county and national levels of government," the petition partly read.

Omtatah believes the best way to guarantee good governance and an end to graft is to elect people with integrity who are transparent and accountable.
