The Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga has appointed Professor Makau Mutua as the spokesperson of the Raila Odinga 2022 Presidential Campaign and head of its Think Tank.

Raila’s Presidential Campaign Secretariat announced Makau’s appointment via a notice on Tuesday.

“It is my pleasure to appoint Prof. Makau Mutua the Spokesperson of the Raila Odinga 2022 Presidential Campaign and Head of its Think Tank,” Raila’s statement read.

In his statement, Raila said Makau did not need any introduction to Kenyans and described him as a distinguished professor.

“Prof. Mutua needs no introduction to Kenyans. He is the former Dean at SUNY Buffalo Law School, The State University of New York, where he is SONY Distinguished Professor and the Margaret W. Wong Professor,” Raila said.

The professor took to his Twitter account to express his gratitude to Raila for his appointment and the trust he was accorded.

"Thanks Baba @RailaOdinga for the trust you’ve placed in me and the privilege of serving you and the people of Kenya in these vital roles. Our march to State House is unstoppable. Because it’s DESTINY," Makau tweeted.

Makau is a commentator in the media space on human rights, international law and politics.

He is also a columnist in several local dailies and has been published by major American newspapers.

Makau was once appointed the chairperson of the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission.

He is also the chairman of the Kenya Human Rights Commission and also a delegate for the Kenya National Constitutional Conference.
