A Wajir court has sentenced two men to 50 years in prison and a fine of Sh63 million for trafficking narcotics.

The two men, namely Abraham Hassan and Mohammed Oloo appeared before Senior resident magistrate Mugendi Nyagah who handed them the heavy sentence.

Hassan was sentenced in absentia and his Sh1 million bond was forfeited to the government after he failed to show up in court for the session.

Following his absence in court, a warrant for his arrest was issued, and detectives launched a serious manhunt for Hassan.

The court also gave the owner of the lorry was given 14 days to show cause why his lorry should not be forfeited to the state.

The duo was arrested at Athibool in Wajir County ferrying 700 kilograms of bhang estimated at Sh21 million on April 4, 2021.

The consignment destined for Nairobi was discovered in a lorry carefully disguised as bags of cement.
