Police have finally decimated the notorious Katombi gang, recently rebranded to ‘Yoyote’ that has been terrorising residents of Mathare Valley in Nairobi.

This comes after Pangani based detectives, acting on a tipoff, happened on two members of the gang robbing a middle-aged woman of her possessions at Bondeni in Mathare Valley on Tuesday night.

The duo had been attacking innocent civilians, wounding some of them and robbing them at gunpoint on that fateful night.

When the officers who responded to the crime alert got to the scene, they found the recently promoted gang member, to the position of the leader, robbing the innocent woman.

Police gave the de facto leader of ‘Yoyote’ gang identified as Jakande Kabede alias Kababa and one accomplice of his an order to surrender, but they defied the order.

Instead of putting down his weapon Kababa opened fire narrowly missing one officer.

The officers responded with lethal force and a fierce exchange of fire ensued, leaving Kababa dead and his accomplice on the run.

Kababa’s accomplice fled the scene narrowly escaping a similar fate as his master, therefore, making him the sole surviving member of Katombi.

Police recovered one Webley revolver with four rounds of ammunition from Kababa.

The incident brought an end to the reign of Katombi gang, the infamous criminal outfit that had terrorised residents of Mathare, Pangani, Huruma estates and the environs.
