Six people have been confirmed dead after the vehicle they were travelling in plunged into a railway track on Ngong Road.

The accident occurred at Dagoretti Corner on Sunday morning and caused a heavy traffic jam on that section of the road as rescue operations were ongoing.

Witness reports say the vehicle, a Toyota Prado that was moving from Karen towards the CBD when it hit a wall before plunging into a railway track.

Four occupants of the ill-fated vehicle, two male and two female passengers are said to have died instantly.

Among the individuals who lost their lives in the unfortunate incident are two Canadian nationals.

The mangled wreck was retrieved from the railway track by an excavator as onlookers thronged the area to witness the operation.
