Twelve pupils at Lake Victoria Primary School sustained serious injuries after a vehicle lost control and rammed into their class.

A driver of a salon car lost control of the vehicle and veered off Ring Road at the section between Joel Omino and Tom Mboya in Nyalenda B, ramming into their class when lessons were ongoing.

The accident happened on Tuesday morning at around 9 am when the pupils were attending their second lesson.

The pupils who sustained injuries were rushed to Nyalenda Health Centre and four of them were later transferred to a higher-level facility for further treatment.

According to a clinical officer at Nyalenda Health Centre Thomas Otieno, the injured pupils were examined before their conditions were confirmed to be stable.

The other pupils and their teacher suffered a trauma that left them literally speechless.

Traffic police arrived at the scene and later visited the health facility where the injured pupils were taken before filing a report.

Details emerging from a section of the residents around the school show they had raised concerns about the location of the school and the safety of the pupils.

It also emerged that the school was built on riparian land and the residents had requested the government to move the school for the pupils’ safety.

The residents also decried the sorry state of the institution that serves needy pupils from around Kisumu Central Sub-County.

Most of the classrooms at the institution are constructed from wood and iron sheet materials.

The vehicle was towed away to the police station as investigations into the matter were launched.
