The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has summoned the Murang'a County Woman Representative Sabina Chege.

Chege has been summoned by the commission for examination over utterances she made at a rally in Isibuye, Vihiga County.

The commission has asked Sabina to present herself before the Electoral Code of Conduct Enforcement Committee at the commission’s offices at the Anniversary Towers in Nairobi on Tuesday.

“YOU ARE HEREBY REQUIRED to attend the Offices of the Commission at Anniversary Towers 6th floor on the 15th day of February 2022 at 9 .00 o'clock in the forenoon for examination by the Electoral Code of Conduct Enforcement Committee over utterances made by yourself at a public rally in lsibuye within Vihiga County on 10/2/2022,” the summons read.

On that day, Sabina responded to a claim that elections were stolen in the Central region in the last general election.

“In Central, I heard them claiming that we stole the elections. There is some truth in that. They should know that if we knew how to rig in the previous elections, what makes you think we will not do something?” Sabina said.

Her response prompted a reaction from Deputy President William Ruto who came out guns blazing to absolve himself and President Uhuru Kenyatta from such allegations.

“I want to tell those disrespecting us, that Uhuru and I had allegedly stolen the elections, that they should stop inciting Kenyans and respect us. We did not steal any votes,” Ruto said.

That would be the first time in a long while Ruto was speaking in Uhuru’s defence.
