The Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) for Transport and Infrastructure Wavinya Ndeti has official tendered her resignation.

Wavinya resigned on Friday to vie for the Machakos gubernatorial seat in the August general election.

Her resignation is in line with the provision of section 43 (5) of the Elections Act, 2011 that require those holding public offices and who wish to contest for any elective post in the forthcoming August 9, 2022, General Elections to resign.

Wavinya announced her stepping down on Friday during a press briefing.

“I have henceforth tendered my resignation from the office of Chief Administrative Secretary effective from today February 4, 2022,” Wavinya said.

She thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for appointing her in his government in various capacities.

"May I take this earliest opportunity to most sincerely thank H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta for affording me the precious opportunity to serve in his Government and assist him in his development agenda, particularly in achievieving the Big 4 Agenda," Wavinya said.

Wavinya said she brings her experience from government appointments to the people of Machakos County and believes he has what it takes to become the county’s next governor.

“I have been serving as CAS, Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing, Urban Development and Public Works. Previously, and before assuming the position of CAS, I served for one year as the Chair of the Governing Council, Kenya Water Institute. If God wills, I want to take my 10 years and continue my journey of taking Machakos to the next level from where I left,” she said.

The former Member of Parliament for Kathiani Constituency rubbished claims by a section of the public and politicians that the Kamba community is divided and will vote in different directions and affirmed the community is united.

“Machakos is one block. It will head in one direction. Take it to the bank. Kambas will vote as a block and there will be no splitting of votes and you will see when the election results are out,” Wavinya assured.

Wavinya will be battling it out with the State State House Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita in the race to replace the outgoing Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua.
