Police have arrested four suspects linked to the attack on former Treasury CS Henry Rotich’s parents' home at Kaptich village in Moiben, Uasin Gishu County.

The criminals raided Mzee Rotich Matui’s home on Monday at around 7 pm and held the family hostage for about 30 minutes while they ransacked the house.

A team of three criminals robbed and harassed Rotich’s family while the remaining two thugs secured the environment.

They stole mobile phones and some cash from the family before escaping in a silver Mercedes Benz and a blue motorbike after members of the public raised an alarm on hearing the commotion at Rotich’s home.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) based in Uasin Gishu arrested the criminals after intercepting the Mercedes Benz along the Old Nairobi Road in Eldoret on Tuesday morning after acting on a tip-off.

The four suspects were identified as Benson Okila, Joseph Kipkurui, Phanuel Maindu Tiriki and Cosmas Kemei.

Police also recovered several items including a pistol, 14 rounds of ammunition, 5 mobile handsets, 4 black face masks, 4 jackets, 2 caps, 2 pairs of gloves, 2 hammers, a hut, a machete, a rope, and a facekini.

The pistol belonged to Okila who police established was not a licensed firearm holder therefore was in possession of the firearm illegally.

One suspect was also wanted in connection to another robbery that happened two years ago at the former CS Rotich's Elgon View home.
