Two people have lost their lives after they attempted jumping off a moving lorry that had lost control at Oloibor Soito.

Six other people who were also on board sustained serious injuries from the incident.

The accident happened when the lorry was headed to Kilgoris Town from Shartuka Market and lost control before veering off the road at Oloibor Soito forcing the victims to jump off.

Transmara West Sub County Police Commander Hamisi Ganzalaha confirmed the morning incident.

Ganzalaha also revealed the driver of the lorry escaped and was still at large.

“The lorry had 8 male passengers on board. It developed a mechanical problem and started emitting excessive smoke causing panic. All the 8 jumped off and unfortunately, two of them Moses Kirungi and Letaiya Sendu died on the spot, leaving six others with injuries,” Ganzalaha said.

Ganzalaha said police have launched a manhunt for the driver of the lorry as he urged drivers to report accidents once they happen, to assist with investigations instead of fleeing.

The bodies of the deceased were transferred to Saint Joseph Mission Hospital Mortuary while the injured are receiving treatment at Kilgoris Sub-county Hospital.
