The Anti-Corruption Court has sentenced the former National Social Security Fund (NSSF) manager Francis Moturi to 14-years in prison.

Moturi’s sentence had the option of paying a Sh2.6 billion fine for his release.

The court’s magistrate Lawrence Mugambi found Moturi guilty of misleading NSSF into paying Sh1.2 billion fraudulently in shares through Discount Security Limited (DSL).

Motouri was accused alongside the former Director and Chairman of the Board of Directors DSL David Githaiga, Former Finance and Administration Director DSL Wilfred Munyoro Weru, Former Investment Manager Isaac Nyamongo who were also found guilty of conspiracy to steal from NSSF through the purported purchase of shares.

They were sentenced to 12 years in prison or pay Sh802 million each to be released.

DSL has also been fined a total of Sh4.8 billion, which will be paid to the statutory manager subject to the availability of funds.

The Anti-Corruption Court also decreed that none of the accused will neither be appointed nor elected to any public office for the next ten years.

The sentences will run consecutively and the court has given the accused 14 days to appeal.
