A sombre mood engulfed Enjija village in Konyonzo location, Kakamega County following the painful death of a 10-year-old infant.

According to the baby’s 25-year-old mother Audrey Akumu, she was performing her usual chores when the incident happened.

Akumu was doing the family’s laundry outside her house while her baby was playing behind her.

After some time, she realised she could not hear the sounds associated with the presence of a baby.

Her realisation prompted her to turn back and find out if her baby was ok.

Unfortunately, she was met by the sight of her child drowned inside a basin full of water.

In her shock, Akumu wailed hysterically as she ran about in confusion and attracted the attention of her neighbours who came running to find out what the commotion was all about.

The neighbours who responded retrieved the baby from the basin and rushed him to Bliss Medical Centre, which was nearby only for the baby to be pronounced dead on arrival.

The young mother and her family are still trying to come to terms with the loss of their child.
