A team of detectives drawn from Kericho and Londiani stations arrested three car theft suspects at Kipchimchim in Kericho County.

The arrest came followed numerous reports of motor vehicle theft in the county.

The suspects Erick Kipkurui Kogo, Philemon Kiprotich Ng’eno and Achila Ondieki were caught in the act of trying to sell a Toyota Probox that was had been reported stolen on January 16.

The car with registration KCQ 318K had disappeared from a car park without a trace.

Apparently, these three individuals had stolen it and hid it for a week until they found fake alternative registration plates and documentation.

Meanwhile, the vehicle’s registration and details had been circulated to all police units within and without the country.

After obtaining the items they needed to sell offload the vehicle to an unsuspecting customer, they found a willing buyer and arranged for a meeting.

The trio drove to the rendezvous, unaware that a team of detectives had been trailing them.

The detectives arrested the trio promptly and recovered the stolen vehicle, which by then had different registration plates; KCU 994X.

The suspects were placed under police custody and processed for arraignment in court.

Detectives are still conducting more investigations to establish if there are any links to a larger web of the car theft syndicate.
