Nairobi governor Mike Sonko will face all 67 Senators to defend himself and save his political career following his impeachment by Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) last week.

This is after Senate Majority Leader Samuel Poghisio refused to table a notice of motion to form an 11-member committee to investigate allegations leveled against him in the ouster motion.

“The leader of majority has declined to give a notice of motion. In the absence of that, the motion cannot proceed,” announced Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka on Wednesday afternoon.

Lusaka ruled that the House Plenary will have to hear the impeachment charges against the beleaguered county boss following the decision by Poghision to withdraw the motion.

The senators who has been picked for the 11-member committee to hear the ouster motion were;

1. Samson Cherargei (Nandi)

2. Charles Kibiru (Kirinyaga)

3. Hargura Godana (Marsabit)

4. Abdullahi Ali (Wajir)

5. Alice Milgo (nominated)

6. Christine Zawadi (nominated)

7. Okongo Omogeni (Nyamira)

8. Mohammed Faki (Mombasa)

9. Judith Pareno (nominated)

10. Petronilla Were (nominated)

11. Fred Outa (Kisumu).

The Speaker said a committee of the whole House will on December 17 and 18 have to try Sonko and either agree with MCAs to kick him out of office or allow him to continue serving.

He also announced that Senate will hold a hybrid virtual sitting for the trial in which some Senators will be in the chambers and others will clock in online for the session.

But some Senators led by Kipchumba Murkomen, Mithika Linturi, Aaron Cheruiyot and Moses Kajwang opposed the order claiming it will be open to abuse and asked for its revocation. fate
