4 police officers and a bar owner in custody over murder in Kakamega

Four police officers and a man are in police custody following the murder of a man in Kakamega back on December 16, 2019.

The five suspects were arrested on Friday after a Kakamega court found them liable for the man’s murder.

The five murder suspects namely Senior Sergeant Michael Cherugut, constables Francis Kayemit, Juma Musa, Duncan Wafula and the owner of the bar Dennis Rossana are being accused of being involved in the death of Raymond Lubango.

According to the court documents of the case, Rosanna alerted the police officers of the Lubango’s conduct at his bar, causing disturbance to other patrons on that fateful night.

The officers responded to the alert and went to the bar where they arrested Lubango and bundled him into the police Land Cruiser.

A few moments into their brief journey to the Kakamega Police station, Lubango allegedly subdued the police officers who were guarding him and bolted out of the moving vehicle.

He landed on the ground of course with a thud and sustained serious injuries.

Lubango was rushed to Kakamega Referral Hospital but unfortunately died from the injuries he sustained during his fall.

An inquiry was opened and the findings were table to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). The findings recommended the matter be taken to court for further public probing.

The suspects are currently being held at Kakamega Police Station waiting to be arraigned in court.
