The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has dispatched a special forensic investigations team to Yala Sub-county in Siaya.

According to the police spokesperson Bruno Shioiso, the team was sent to River Yala and the Yala Sub-county Level 4 Hospital to assist with further investigations concerning human bodies that have been found dumped in River Yala.

The special forensic investigations team will assist another team from the DCI which was already appointed and tasked with investigations on the retrieval of bodies in the river.

“To speed up the identification of the victims and other forensic investigations, a special forensic investigations team from the DCI headquarters has been dispatched to the scene at River Yala and the Yala Sub-county Level 4 Hospital to assist with further investigations,” Shioso said.

So far, nineteen bodies dumped into the river have been recovered in the last two years and despite appeals to the public, nobody has come forward to claim the bodies lying at Yala Sub-county Level 4 Hospital morgue.

Shioso has however disputed reports circulating across the media that the cumulative body count is from recent incidences.

“This number represents a cumulative body count over the stated period contrary to media reports insinuating all the incidences are a recent occurrence,” Shioso said.

The National Police Service has appealed to anyone with information that can assist with the investigations to share it with them.
