The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has explained the cause of a serious power outage that has affected Nairobi and some of it's environs on Tuesday morning.

According to KPLC, a collapsed, high voltage transmission tower on the Kiambere-Embakasi power line caused the outage that happened at 10:45 am.

"We have lost power supply due to collapsed towers on the Kiambere-Embakasi high voltage transmission power line at 10:45 am this morning," KPLC said 

The company has assured its esteemed customers that their engineers are working to restore power supply as they are conducting a repair exercise.

"Our engineers are working to restore electricity supply as repairs are being undertaken. An update on the restoration progress will be issued in due course," KPLC said.

KPLC also apologies for any inconveniences the power outage has caused their customers.

"We wish to apologize to our esteemed customers for the inconvenience caused," KPLC added 

Even though KPLC has assured its customers of the repair works that is going on to restore power, they have not given a timeframe within which power supply is expected to be back.

Other parts affected by the power outage include parts of Kajiado and Kiambu counties.
