A prison warder was almost beaten to death by an angry mob at Ngurubani market, Kirinyaga County on Sunday after he was caught trying to extort two men for allegedly sleeping with his wife.

Dennis Mugambi was caught by neighbours as he held two men hostage claiming they had been in bed with his wife and demanded they part with Sh20,000 each for their alleged sins.

According to Mwea East Deputy Police Commander Lucas Chebet, Mugambi escaped death by a whisker after an officer from Tebere Police Post aided him and took him to Wang’uru Police Station .

Residents, according to Chebet, sensed something was amiss after one of the two men, who were under his mercy, made a phone call to his family members asking for Sh10,000 urgently.

The police linked Mugambi to the alleged sex scandal that involved Kirinyaga Deputy Governor Peter Ndambiri back in 2018.

“This prison warder is a known criminal. He trapped Kirinyaga Deputy Governor Peter Ndambiri two years ago. He was also interdicted.” Said Chebet.

In 2018, a video went viral on social media showing the prison warder ‘cornering’ Kirinyaga Deputy Governor Peter Ndambiri alleging he was bedding his wife.

But Ndambiri refuted the claims instead accusing a gang involved in recording the video of him and an unidentified woman of extorting him and demanding Sh5 million to erase the video.

He alleged he had been stripped naked before recording of the distasteful video commenced.
