Uhuru said Njonjo’s death has dealt a big blow not only his family but to the entire African continent.
“The passing away of Hon. Njonjo is a big blow not only to his immediate family, friends and relatives but to all Kenyans and indeed, the entire African continent because of his leading role in the founding of the Kenyan nation at independence,” Uhuru said.
Uhuru said Kenya owes Njonjo a debt of gratitude for his selfless contribution to the laying of the solid foundation the country thrives on.
“As a nation, we owe a debt of gratitude to Hon. Njonjo and his generation of independence era leaders for their selfless contribution to the laying of the solid foundation upon which our country continues to thrive, Uhuru said.
Uhuru expressed his message of condolence to the bereft because of Njonjo’s death.
“On behalf of the Kenyan nation, my family and on my own behalf, I send deepest and heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and relatives of Hon. Njonjo, and indeed all Kenyans,” Uhuru said.
Other leaders and Kenyans at large also shared their messages of condolence over social media.
Charles Njonjo devoted his life in serving our country in pre-and post-independent Kenya as a civil servant, Attorney-General, Kikuyu MP and Constitutional Affairs Minister. He was knowledgeable, blunt and a dedicated advocate for the causes he believed in. pic.twitter.com/iA0XBaCQwe— William Samoei Ruto, PhD (@WilliamsRuto) January 2, 2022

A giant has fallen. There will never be another like him. Principled and strong in his beliefs and convictions. My heartfelt condolences to the Njonjo family in particular the widow who taught me French at Alliance High School. May the soul of Hon. Charles Njonjo rest in peace. pic.twitter.com/vdYHlKIf3u— James Orengo (@orengo_james) January 2, 2022
