President Uhuru Kenyatta has nominated city lawyer Roseline Odhiambo Odede to be the new chairperson of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR).

Odede is an Advocate of the High Court and previously served the Vice-Chairperson of the Judges and Magistrates Vetting Board.

Uhuru has also nominated Marion Wanjiku, Sarah Bonaya, Dennis Wamalwa and Raymond Sang and the four are awaiting the vetting and approval of the National Assembly.

The nominees were proposed to the president by a seven-member selection panel and their names forwarded to the National Assembly for possible approval after a vetting process.

The panel consisting of Jasper Mbiuki, Mary-Anne Njau, Regina Mwatha, Kenneth Ombongi, Akhonya Mutubwa, Habiba Mohammed and William Ogara was sworn into office in October.

Members of Parliament have only 28 days to accept or reject the nominations of the eight after MPs resume normal sittings officially on January 25, 2022.
