A 38-year-old man narrowly escaped death on Tuesday after police snatched him from the hands of irate mob that was baying for his blood.

The man identified as Peter Kariuki tried to rape a woman in Githunguri as she was headed back to her home in Nyaga viallge from Maiko shopping centre.

Kariuki waylaid the woman to a secluded spot and tried to rape her.

Members of the public descended on Kariuki with palpable slaps, blows and kicks that landed squarely on their intended targets.

It took the intervention of police officers from Ngewa Police station on standby who came and rescued Kariuki from the hands of the irate mob before arresting him.

Kariuki was rushed to Ngewa Health Center where he was treated of the injuries he sustained from the thorough beating he received from the mob.

He was later discharged and taken into police custody at Ngewa Police Station.

Upon frisking Kariuki, police retreived a Lenovo cell phone belonging to the victim.

The victim was not yielding to Kariuki’s forceful advances as she put a spirited fight and raised and alarm that caught the attention of members of the public who were quick to respond to her SOS.
