Deputy President William Ruto has received a dose of his own medicine after he accused ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga of being stingy.

Speaking on Tuesday when he hosted Kajiado and Samburu religious leaders at his Karen residence, Ruto claimed Raila was selfish and stingy and did not fundraise for needy Kenyans.

“Our friend does not attend church or school fundraisers. He does not fundraise with our women. Giving out church offerings alone is a problem. He will not donate. This time Kenyans are smarter. They will not vote for him.”

He wondered why the former PM always got votes from Kenyans yet he was not as generous as he is and pleaded with Kenyans to elect him as president in 2022 due to his generosity.

"There are people who are very lucky, because they don’t even give church offerings but 20,000 votes, and you wonder how they got those votes and for doing what. However, Kenyans are wiser this time,” lamented Ruto at the meeting.

However, in a quick rejoinder, Raila’s daughter Winnie Odinga could hear none of it and he accused the UDA party leader of pretense and giving handouts for public relations.

“Not all donations are PR stunts. Give with your heart or not at all. The world doesn’t have to know,” she tweeted in response to a post by Kenyans.co.ke quoting the remarks by Ruto.

Winnie picked her response from Mathew 6:3-4 in the Bible who states: “3: But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4: so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”
