Police officers in Ruaka, Kiambu County have shot dead two suspected armed robbers after a fierce exchange of fire.

One police officer is said to have been injured during the shoot-out.

Confirming the Tuesday morning incident, Kiambaa sub-County police commander Phineas Ringera said that a ceska pistol and four bullets suspected to have been used by the gangsters were recovered from the scene.

''The suspects refused to surrender and started shooting at our police men, during the shoot-out, our officers shot the robbers, one of our police officer suffered a gunshot wound,'' said Ringera. 

The shoot-out is said to have ensued after the two men defied orders to surrender at Ruaka bus stop.

The suspected robbers were driving in a Toyota probox when the police officers challenged them to surrender.

It is suspected that the robbers were planning to rob a certain business premise at Ruaka town.
