The Cabinet Secretary for Interior Fred Matiang’i has declared December 13, 2021, a public holiday.

This is in line with provisions of Sections 2 and 4 of the Public Holidays Act (Cap110).

The announcement was made in a press release dated December 9, 2021.

Kenya celebrates Jamuhuri Day on December 12 of every year and since this year’s Jamuhuri day falls on a Sunday, Monday has been declared a public holiday.

“In line with the provisions of Section 2 and 4 of the Public Holidays Act (Cap 110), it is hereby confirmed that 13th December 2021 will be a public holiday, by dint of Jamhuri Day failing on Sunday 12th December 2021,” the statement read.

The CS said Jamuhuri Day bears profound historical significance as it marks Kenya’s gain of independence and the birth of the Republic.

Matiang’i has urged all the citizens to celebrate and honour Jamuhuri Day in a manner that promotes unity, national cohesion and economic progress in Kenya.

“All citizens are encouraged to honour and celebrate this day in a manner that promotes unity, national cohesion and economic progress in the country,” Matiang’i said.
