The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has renewed the term for CEO David Omwoyo for another term.

This is the second and last term Omwoyo is serving as the MCK CEO and will end in July 2027.

The MCK announced the extension of Omwoyo’s term in a press statement on Sunday.

Omwoyo’s contract has been extended in accordance with the State Corporations Advisory Committee (SCAC) guidelines.

SCAC guidelines require that a decision on the CEO’s contract should be made at least six months to the expiry of the term to allow the seamless transition.

Omwoyo’s term was supposed to end in July 2022 however, a performance evaluation by the MCK board supervised by SCAC saw the renewal of his term.

Omwoyo stored 96 per cent in the evaluation for CEO’s serving in State Corporation whose pass mark is pegged at 70 per cent.

MCK board said it was impressed by Omwoyo’s performance in the last four years and his ideas about strategic interventions in media regulation in a dynamic environment.

“The board is exceptionally impressed by the performance of the CEO in the last four years and his thinking around strategic interventions in media regulation in a changing environment,” the statement read.

The board also said it has noted the turnaround at the Council, including the opening of four regional offices and improving the financial position of the council, is excellent.
