Detectives have arrested a scrap meta dealer believed to be responsible for SGR vandalism that caused a delay in the SGR train on Monday.

Michael Mbevi Mwania was arrested on Saturday morning at around 11 am at his store in Kinyambu, Mtito-Andei while he was loading the gauge blocks onto a lorry ready for the markets.

The scrap metal business is lucrative and some unscrupulous individuals, such as Mbevi have resorted to vandalising the railways to have their share of the market.

Also arrested during the raid was the lorry driver, Nicodemus Kyove who has made a desperate attempt to flee but the long limbs of the law caught him.

Their actions are believed to cause a two-hour delay of operation along the busy Mombasa-Nairobi railway line as railway and security officials inspected the extent of damage caused on the railway.

The theft of the blocks posed dire consequences that include a serious train accident after the derailment.
