A deadly explosion has been reported in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu in the early hours of Thursday.

According to witness reports, a car bomb that targeted a United Nations security convoy caused the explosion.

The explosion took place at Hodan District in Mogadishu in front of a school called Mocaasir primary and secondary schools.

8 people have lost their lives in the bomb attack while 17 others are nursing serious injuries, including 13 students.

Property worth millions have been destroyed in the explosion, including vehicles that were parked in the school or nearby and the building around the area.

The Al-Shabaab armed militia group has claimed responsibility for a bomb attack that rocked Mogadishu, saying it had targeted military trainees.

Gunshot sounds were also reported to have rented the air immediately after the explosion.
