The inter-county SGR train from Mombasa to Nairobi broke down at Lesonkoyo station, leaving passengers stranded for some time.

Kenya Railways issued a statement and said the train broke down after developing a mechanical problem.

The mishap has caused delays in normal operations and schedules on the Nairobi-Mombasa railway.

"The Inter-county train from Mombasa to Nairobi has developed a mechanical problem resulting in an undue delay," read the Kenya Railway statement.

The 3:00 pm express train from Nairobi to Mombasa was delayed by two hours and departed from the station at 5:00 pm.

"The 3:00 pm Express train to Mombasa will now depart at 5:00 pm. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused," continued the statement.

Kenya Railways dispatched a rescue locomotive to facilitate the completion of their journey for the passengers that were stuck at Lesonkoyo.

The passengers were expected to arrive in Nairobi at around 4:20 pm.

Kenya Railways apologized for the inconvenience the delay caused to their esteemed customers.
