An armed gang raided ‘Wazee Hukumbuka’ bar in Isiolo on Tuesday night at around 8 pm.

The gun-totting gang roughed up patrons and frisked them for money and other valuable items.

Their mission was so far successful until the owner of the bar made an SOS call that attracted the attention of police officers who were on patrol.

They quickly responded to the distress call and took vantage points around the premise ready to combat the miscreants.

Upon taking their positions, the police established their presence to the thugs and called out to them to surrender without resistance and warned of dire consequences should the thugs fail to heed.

One thug defied the order to surrender peacefully but opted to stage a shoot-out match with the police and reached for the trigger. Fortunately, a police officer who was ready on target took him out in a single shot before he could shoot someone.

One of his accomplices also fired an aimless shot, causing more panic to the patrons who tried to scram from the scene.

The rest of the gang took advantage of the melee and narrowly escaped from the scene with an unknown amount of money and other valuables.

Crime Scene Investigation detectives arrived and processed the scene of the crime.

One patron sustained a gunshot wound on his thigh from the thugs.

Several other revellers sustained blunt object inflicted bodily injuries on various parts of their bodies and they sought medical attention.

Police are still in pursuit of the gang that escaped.

The lifeless body of the deceased was moved to a Nanyuki mortuary pending identification.
