The newly sworn-in Nairobi Governor, Anne Kananu has pledged to cushion Nairobi residents and businesses from the challenges occasioned by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking shortly after her swearing-in ceremony in Nairobi on Tuesday, Kananu promised to serve Nairobians diligently, to the best of her knowledge and ability.

Kananu intimated that her decision to sign into law the Sexual Gender-based violence bill is  meant to reduce all forms of gender-based violence in Nairobi County.

The governor said the bill will ensure that perpetrators are severely punished for their acts.

She added that the law will ensure essential service and justice for the victims.

Kananu confirmed that her office will disburse Sh503 million to bright and needy students to cater for their education to ensure no student is left behind.

She said that the county has recruited 498 early childhood education teachers to support the provision of quality education.

Kananu also said the county will roll out the disaster feeding program as part of the immediate response after the post-pandemic.

She noted that she has expanded the existing fire stations from two since independence to six spread across Nairobi County.

Kananu also challenged women and young girls to come forward and show their leadership skills.

The new governor has promised to work closely with the Director-General of Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS) Maj Gen Mohamed Badi to ensure service delivery to residents.
