The Nairobi Deputy Governor Anne Kananu will finally be sworn-in as the Governor for Nairobi on Tuesday.

The ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Kenya International Convention Centre (KICC) COMESA grounds starting from 10:00 am.

Kananu’s swearing in was announced in a Kenya Gazette notice dated November 11, 2021.

“PURSUANT to sections 14 and 16 (0 (b) of the Assumption of the Office of Governor Act, 2019, and in accordance with the provisions of Article 74 of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, it is notified for information of the general public that the sweari,in ceremony of Ms. Ann Kaman Mwenda, as the Governor of Nairobi City County, shall take place on Tuesday 16th November, 7.021 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre COMESA Gorunds, starting from 10.00 a.m.” read the gazette notice.

Kananu, who has been acting as governor after impeached governor Mike Sonko challenged her ascention to office, took to her Twitter account on Monday to share the good news with her followers.

This comes after the Supreme Court last week gave a nod paving way for her swearing in.

Sonko’s spirited opposition had impeded Kananu’s assumption of office process through vicious court battles.

Upon taking her oath of office, she will become the third governor of Nairobi and the first female governor of Kenya’s capital as well.

Chief Justice Martha Koome already appointed a judge to preside over the oath ceremony.

This was confirmed in a letter released on Monday by Senior Counsel Muciimi Mbaka.

“I have been directed by the Honourable Chief Justice to inform you that a judge has been appointed to preside over the swearing ceremony on November 16 at 10 am,” said Mbaka.

Kananu has announced her interest to vie for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in the 2022 general election coming as ODM MP for Westlands Constituency, Tim Wanyonyi launched his bid to become the county boss in the coming poll as well.
