President Uhuru Kenyatta jetted into the neighbouring country, Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa on Sunday.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed received the head of state at the airport.

“Welcome to your second home, my dear President Uhuru Kenyatta,” wrote MP Abiy on his Twitter handle.

The State House however did not disclose details of the president’s visit to Addis.

During his visit to Addis, Uhuru held private talks with the top leadership of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia led by President Sahle-Work Zewde and PM Abiy.

Uhuru’s visit came shortly after Kenya concluded its rotational presidency at the United Nations Security Council and amid civil war hanging over the country’s Tigray region.

Ethiopia declared a six-month state of emergency as Tigrayan People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) rebel forces advanced towards Addis Ababa.

The state of emergency was declared as a security measure to protect the capital after TPLF forces captured two major towns near the main road leading to Addis Ababa.
