Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has asked principals whose schools were affected by arson attacks by students not to impose exorbitant charges on parents for repair.

Oparanya made the remarks while in Matungu sub-county, Kakamega county during public participation and singled out Kakamega High school where parents have been told to pay Sh21 million to repair a burnt dormitory.

The governor said he received many calls from parents complaining about the decision taken by the principal without even consulting them.

Parents of students however opposed the demand by the institution to pay Sh9,000 to repair the damages incurred during November 6 fire that razed a dormitory.

The newsletter issued to parents also requested them to clear any outstanding fees and arrears up to the second term.
