All Public Service institutions have until the 30th of November to submit a comprehensive catalog of their allowances to the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).

This follows the allowances policy guidelines for the public service policy published by the SRC mid this year seeking to curb the ratio of basic salary and to cross salary at not less than 60 per cent in a bid to place a firm lead on the ballooning wage bill.

SRC chairperson Lyn Mengich said they would thereafter analyze the allowances over a period of three months before tabling its recommendations.

Mengich said the commission has around 257 allowances.

Mengich added there is less control over how allowances are being controlled which creates a lot of inequity in pay.

She said the commission seeks to address equity, fairness, transparency, and accountability within the public service institutions.
