Officers deployed to provide security for the Deputy President William Ruto are an unfortunate lot.

This revelation comes after the Interior Ministry wrote a letter to the Office of the Deputy President citing the matter of inconsistent food rations to the officers guarding the DP William Ruto.

According to the letter to DP’s office, officers stationed at the DP’s official residence and those at his private residence at Karen have not been consistently provided with food rations or allowances.

“This is to bring to your attention that the above officers have not been consistently provided with food ration or meal allowances to enable them to discharge their mandate effectively and efficiently,” the letter read in part.

In the letter, it is noted that the officers cannot move out to nourish themselves as they are permanently deployed at those stations for both day and night duties.

“They are deployed there permanently for day/night duties and cannot move out to get food supplies.

However, the letter also revealed that the officers from the General Service Unit (GSU) who were replaced by the current officers drawn from the Administration Police Service (AP) used to receive their supply of food rations.

The Interior Ministry further requested the reinstatement of food rations to the suffering officers.

“The purpose of this letter is to request that you reinstate the food rations for the officers currently deployed in the two residences for optimal service delivery.”
