Wealthy businessmen from Mt Kenya region under the Mt Kenya Foundation (MKF) on Thursday met leaders from North Eastern Kenya under their new UPYA party in Nairobi.

The Mt Kenya businessmen met UPYA leaders led by Treasury CS Ukur Yatani at Safari Park hotel in a bid to unite the two regions to push their common agenda ahead of the 2022 poll.

Yatani lauded President Uhuru Kenyatta for his legacy projects that they said had ensure equitable development across the country, including the previously neglected North Eastern.

He called for the two regions to continue working together to achieve development in their respective counties, saying they had a lot in common, especially hard work by their people.

“We have a lot in common with the people of Mount Kenya, we work hard to enjoy our sweat. President Uhuru Kenyatta's legacy can only be continued by someone that he chooses and supports,” said Yatani.

The CS added, “He (Uhuru) has outdone himself, the best we've had. He can only be emulated, because his legacy nation is unmatched.”

He went on, “Every Kenyan deeply knows the work that the president has done. Even though he won't be on the ballot, the people of the North will listen and be guided by him.”

Equity Bank Founder Peter Munga said they will continue discussing matters of mutual interest between Mt Kenya and Turkana, Mandera, Moyale, Marsabit, Garissa, Wajir, Tana River.

MKF added that the 22 counties under Mt Kenya and North Eastern regions will work together ahead of the 2022 General Election to ensure interests of both regions are better addressed.

This comes weeks after MKF also met ODM party leader Raila Odinga at Safari Park as he highlighted his plans for Mt Kenya region and the whole country ahead of next year's poll.

It also comes after the same leaders of the foundation met Okoa Kenya Alliance (OKA) leaders Kalonzo Musyoka, Moses Wetangula, Gideon Moi and Musalia Mudavadi on the same.
