A section of the largest open-air market in the region, Gikomba, was razed down by a mysterious fire early Monday morning.

Goods worth millions have been destroyed by the fire that sources said started very early in the morning.

The cause of the fire is yet to be established.

Traders at the second-hand clothes (mitumba) section have suffered the more because the section also holds the stores where they keep their bales.

It was so unfortunate that by the time the traders arrived at the marker the fire had already consumed everything in its path.

By the time the fire brigade arrived at the scene, the fire had already spread to the wooded shelters and stands the traders use.

This comes as a double tragedy to some traders as the court also issued the Nairobi Metropolitan Services with a green light to evict traders from another section of the market earmarked to expand Pumwani Hospital.
